Milton Academy – The Art And Media Center

Our task at Milton Academy was to renovate a portion of the 1970 cast-in-place concrete building into a functional and welcoming environment for visual arts. Now called The Art and Media Center, it had been known as “Old Science” and was underutilized.

Two large common labs were subdivided to create four large classrooms: two on the north side (drawing, painting and printmaking) and two on the south side (sculpture and ceramics). All four main level studios are flexible enough to support any studio art foundations course. A fifth classroom was outfitted with technology to serve as a digital media lab. Each faculty member now has an office large enough to double as a studio. A separate faculty lounge also features a tools and material storage area. Updates and repairs to mechanical systems, as well as new finishes and improved lighting were also completed. The new Art and Media Center provides a collaborative place for faculty and students to “make and create” and focus on a variety of visual arts and technology-based classes.
