Paul Revere School

Revere, MA

The 1921 Paul Revere School building was replaced with a new school. A renovation wasn’t feasible due to educational space standards, accessibility issues, poor thermal performance and antiquated building systems.

The new school houses a gymnasium, cafeteria and library organized as shared spaces available to the community evenings and weekends. The design honors the previous structure by maintaining its namesake and salvaging several artifacts such as a Corinthian column portico, granite steps and engraved pre-cast placards and incorporating them into the new building.

The design features contemporary building systems combined with historical references. The school honors the historical legacy of Paul Revere and the revolutionary war era by featuring a number of displays throughout the facility that can be used as teaching aids. Silhouettes of horsemen, an arcade of Paul Revere imagery and an interpretive map in porcelain tile of the ride of Paul Revere are among some of the features. The project was completed in 2010.
